Tamiya Paint Retarder (acrylic)

Tamiya Paint Retarder (Acrylic) is an additive designed to slow the drying time of Tamiya Acrylic Paints, giving hobbyists more time to work with the paint before it sets. The slower drying process helps acrylic paint flow more smoothly and can reduce the grainy or rough surface that may occur during application, particularly when brush painting. It is also useful when working toward a smoother, glossier finish.

The retarder can be used with Tamiya Acrylic Paints for both brush painting and airbrushing. By extending the paint's working time, it can help improve the finish on Gunpla, plastic model kits, figures, and other scale-model projects. Tamiya specifies that the retarder can be added at up to a 1:10 ratio of retarder to acrylic paint, allowing the amount to be adjusted according to the desired result and painting method.

This product is specifically intended for Tamiya Acrylic Paints and should not be confused with Tamiya's separate lacquer paint retarder.
